Ianna Hawkins Owen is a UC President's Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of English at the University of California, Berkeley. She works on African diaspora theory, queer theory, failure, and asexuality.
My work examines literary and visual recitations of black failure in the forms and sites of misrecognition, betrayal, suicide, idleness, gender and sexuality broadly, and asexuality (lack of desire) and feedism (fetish for eating/feeding) specifically. I have experience analyzing memoir, poetry, neoslave narrative fiction, speculative fiction and science fiction, printmaking, drawing, painting, and silhouette. I also have political direct action experience, religious sensitivity, and board game enthusiasm.
